Cardiology Cardiologists specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease. Cardiology is a subspecialty of internal medicine and includes the study of the heart through the use of heart catheterization, exercise echocardiography and other diagnostic techniques.
Emergency Medicine Emergency physicians initiate life-saving treatment for a variety of medical
emergencies and direct the pre-hospital management of patients and their
referral to appropriate specialists.
Family Practice Family practitioners provide health care for the entire family, including
minor surgical procedures, and will refer family members to the appropriate
specialists when necessary.
Gastronenterology Gastroenterologists are internists who diagnose and treat conditions and
diseases of the digestive system, the liver and the pancreas.
General Practice General practice physicians provide primary care. They treat acute and
chronic illnesses, provide preventive care and health education for all ages
and both sexes. Frequently, they will remove minor skin lesions surgically.
Gynecology An gynecologist provides medical and surgical treatment of disorders and
diseases of the female reproductive and urinary systems.
Internal Medicine Internists diagnose and treat a variety of diseases affecting adults
including diabetes, heart disease and cancer. They provide medical, rather
than surgical treatment.
Neurology Neurologists treat disorders and diseases of the nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves) medically rather than surgically.
Obstetrics An obstetrician/gynecologist provides health care during and after a woman's
pregnancy.
Ophthalmology Ophthalmologists provide medical and surgical treatment for diseases and
disorders of the eye, and may also evaluate vision and prescribe lenses for
glasses. They also provide refractive surgery for nearsightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism.
Orthopedics Orthopedics is the branch of medicine and medical specialty dealing with the prevention or correction of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments.
Pathology Pathologists diagnose diseases by microscopic study of tissues, bone marrow
and body fluids. They may supervise the quality of laboratory tests reported
to physicians.
Pediatrics Pediatricians specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease in children from birth through the teenage years.
Podiatry Podiatrists specialize in the care of the foot, including prevention, diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment.
Radiology Diagnostic Radiologists use x-rays, ultrasound, nuclear medicine,
computerized axial tomography (CT scan) and magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) to detect abnormalities or malfunctioning of internal organs and bone
structures.
Surgery - General General surgery, despite its name, is a surgical specialty that focuses on
surgical treatment of abdominal organs, e.g. intestines including esophagus,
stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, and hernias.
Surgery - Laparoscopic Laparoscopic surgeons have training in minimally invasive surgery of the
abdomen, head and neck, peripheral vascular system, endocrine system, tumors, trauma and critical care.
Surgery - Orthopedics Orthopedists treat patients both surgically and medically for injuries or
disease of the bones, joints, spine and muscles.
