Emergency
Services
We provide 24-hour emergency care through
a group of dedicated staff and physicians trained to provide urgent medical care
for patents of all ages.
We will be remodeling and enlarging the emergency
department in 2007/2008 and improvements will include the addition of eight
private rooms and two semi-private rooms.
Our emergency department provides initial
treatment to patients with a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries, some of
which may be life-threatening and requiring immediate attention. Emergency
departments respond to the need for rapid assessment and management of critical
illnesses. In Lake County, emergency departments have become important entry
points for those without other means of access to medical care.
Upon arrival in the ED, people typically undergo
a brief triage, or sorting, interview to help determine the nature and severity
of their illness. Individuals with serious illnesses are then seen by a
physician more rapidly than those with less severe symptoms or injuries. After
initial assessment and treatment, patients are either admitted to the hospital,
stabilized and transferred to another hospital for various reasons, or
discharged. Physician specialists in family practice, internal medicine,
pediatrics, surgery, orthopedics and cardiology provide on-call coverage around
the clock, and in-house emergency medical technicians, radiology technicians,
physician assistants, volunteers, and other support staff all work as a team to
treat emergency patients and provide support to anxious family members. Our
emergency department operates around the clock.
